Two PhD opportunitiesatthe Dioscuri Centre for Chromatin Biology and Epigenomics

Dioscuriis a program initiated by the Max Planck Society, managed jointly with the National Science Centre and mutually funded by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Our Centre is an integral part of the NenckiInstitute of Experimental Biology,one of the leadingscientific institutes in Poland. Locatedin the heart of the Ochota Campus, the main hub for biological sciences in Warsaw, Nencki offers access to the state-of-the-art technological infrastructure anda vibrant scientific environment.

One of the primaryaims of our lab is todecipher the regulatory networks orchestrating thebiology of astrocytes, the major glial cell type in mammalian brain. To this end, weuse stem cell models, high throughput sequencing approaches(ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, Hi-C), CRISPR-Cas9 mediated genome editing, and computational tools.

Currently,we are seeking twohighly motivated, talented,andcreativescientists tojoin ourgroupand identify the genetic bases of astrocyte evolution.A strong commitment and systematic working styleare a must.

The first position is tailored for an experimental biologist. We are looking for a candidateholding a master’s degreein molecular/cell biology or neurosciences. The successful PhD studentwill combine inducedpluripotent stem cellmodels and variousgenomics tools, tofunctionally characterize theregulome of astrocytesin chosen mammalian species.

The second position is foreseen for a computational biologist. We are seeking a studentwith a master’s degree inbioinformaticsand a strong interest in regulatory and evolutionary genomics. The successful candidate willuse computational biology toolstointegratevarious ‘omics’ data andidentify theregulatory elements that play critical roles for astrocyte evolution.
